Mental health is like a measure of success for each of us. When one’s mental health is good, one can be resilient in facing and accepting difficult challenges. If you do not practice mental health, you will be easily affected by the pressures of work and life, and you can collapse at any time.
Mental health is a positive state of thinking, controlling emotions and behaving. Just like physical health, people can have good mental health or poor mental health.
Good mental health is when people can excitedly start a new day; often smile at those around you; can think positively even in difficult situations; Eat well, sleep well and rarely feel depressed for more than a day.
When faced with difficult problems, people with good mental health will always see the positive aspects and find quick solutions. When mental health is unstable, people will encounter many obstacles with negative psychology. This state of mind also affects physical health, the ability to handle work and relationships
Building healthy emotions has a huge impact on a person’s mind and body, so it is necessary to change and practice from within to form positive emotions for life.
1. Practice healthy eating habits and exercise daily
Mind, body and soul are closely related to each other. Healthy people understand the importance of each factor. They not only expand their minds by reading, learning something new, or meditating but also keep their bodies healthy. This will increase your ability to concentrate, function and sleep better.
You should eat many food groups to help improve mental health such as fatty fish, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables… combined with light exercise. One of the ideal subjects to help you improve your mental health is yoga. You should maintain a regular exercise schedule of 3 sessions/week.
2. Learn to share with others
One of the fastest ways to relieve sadness is to talk it out. Suppressing them inside and suffering alone only makes the situation worse. Open up to your family, friends, doctor or psychologist.
The main purpose of these conversations is not to solve the problem but to help you feel better and regain mental balance. You may not be able to find a solution, but you may receive a lot of useful advice and encouragement from loved ones.
If talking is uncomfortable, write down your feelings and thoughts. This is a way to both relieve yourself and keep your privacy.
3. Increase awareness of self-worth and learn to love yourself
The first step to building a healthy spiritual life is self-awareness. When practicing this ability, you can see the habits and beliefs you should follow and those you should not follow. From there, determine what you need, what you can do, and maintain good habits.
Mentally healthy people also always understand their boundaries and limits and are not afraid to live within their limits. They know that doing so will not only keep their minds healthy and happy, but it will also make others better.
Besides, understanding that self-love will go through ups and downs, sometimes up, sometimes down like the rotation of the four seasons. But they will not be conservative but will accept and nurture self-love no matter what environment or situation they live in.
4. Take a course, or develop a skill
Mental health is greatly affected by the work we do every day. The best way to get out of the boring cycle is to find a new hobby and passion.
Think about a class you want to take, a skill you want to develop. When starting to learn something new, the brain will automatically create a new neural pathway. This method not only helps us increase our creativity and problem-solving skills, but also changes the chemicals in the brain and helps us better adapt to changes in life.
5. Cultivate gratitude
Practicing the habit of gratitude is one of the healthy ways to get what you want. If you want to be loved, always express gratitude for what you have received. If you want money, do the same. Healthy people understand, know how to give and receive, and always maintain “gratitude”.
6. Know how to take care of yourself
Self-care is an indispensable element for a healthy emotional life. People with good mental health know when to refuel their body and mind and aren’t afraid to do it. They are also aware of their limits, what will boost their energy and how to regain balance.
7. Laugh a lot but also allow yourself to be angry
Healthy people acknowledge, accept, and express accurately what they feel. They do not keep negative emotions inside or let the wound fester for a long time. If they are hurt, jealous, depressed, disappointed… they show it the same way.
The difference between emotionally healthy people and toxic people is that they recognize that they feel a particular emotion and allow themselves time to process those particular emotions. Once they let that happen, they will feel better.
8. Pursue your passion
Healthy people know how to work to live a meaningful life, and one of the important parts is pursuing their passions. They understand that if they don’t do so, they will always crave something and that is fertile ground for sowing unhealthy things. Find your passion and pursue it. That is the path to spiritual health.
